An area totalling 1.5 hectares was reclaimed within Dun Laoghaire Harbour in 1994.
The reclaimed area was retained by a 220m sheetpile wall adjacent to an existing quay and at the backseat structure.
The exposed west face is retained by a 175m rock armoured rock fill revetment with a 6m mass concrete retaining wall on top.
The containment area was constructed under a parallel Civil Engineering contract by Ascon Ltd from September to November 1994.
The area was filled to a depth of 12m with 175,000 cubic metres of sand sourced within the Harbour by a cutter suction dredger which pumped the sand and water mixture to the containment area at a rate of 1000 cubic metres per hour.
