Waterford North Quays Public Infrastructure Project

The public infrastructure works at Waterford North Quays include enhanced multi-modal access routes, an integrated transport hub including the relocation of Waterford train station to a more convenient location, and the sustainable transport bridge.

When complete, this work will reduce the reliance on private cars and facilitate alternative modes of transport for those accessing the area through the delivery of enhanced and integrated sustainable and active travel infrastructure.

The project comprises:

1.3km of urban dual carriageway and local road upgrades in the Ferrybank area, together with significant junction works and bridge connections to the SDZ site across the Waterford to Rosslare Railway (Access Infrastructure Scheme)

Sustainable Transport Bridge

  • a 207m long pedestrian and cycle bridge across the River Suir (Sustainable Transport Bridge), with an opening span to accommodate river traffic. The bridge will also cater for a local shuttle bus service between the city and the North Quays site

Transport Hub & Train Platforms

  • a new train station and transport hub

Road and Bridge Construction Northside

  • 5 Bridges over Rail tracks and Greenway
  • 6 Earth retaining structures for elevated roads
  • Upgrade of Dock Road, Fountain street and Abbey Road
  • New offline roundabout and dual carriageway from Fountain street to North quay development and Abbey Road
  • All associated utility works
  • Hard and soft landscaping with flood walls on south plaza
