International Green Apple Environment Awards
29th November 2019
Well done to the Graham BAM Healthcare team who won the Green Apple GOLD Award recently in the Building & Construction sector for Environmental Best Practice on the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Facility (AMHIC) for the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust.
The Acute Mental Health Inpatient Centre (AMHIC), is a “positive space for healing” where patients experience “inclusion and normalisation”.
The £33m purpose-built unit, the first of its kind in Belfast, has enabled the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to cater for mental health patients in one central location and accelerate the closure of antiquated buildings spread across multiple locations.
The 10,000m2 single storey centre, providing 74 acute mental health beds and six psychiatric intensive care beds, consists of five separate interconnecting buildings arranged around a cloistered central courtyard, and communal and administration areas.
The Green Apple Environment Awards were established in 1994 as an annual campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.
The Green Apple Awards scheme was one of the first to be accredited by the RSA as an official feeder scheme into the European Business Awards for the Environment, and is still one of only a handful of accredited campaigns.
Previous Green Apple Award winners have gone on to win European awards, and many have taken on the status of International Green World Ambassador by helping others around the world to help the environment. www.thegreenorganisation.info/awards-home/
