President Michael D Higgins officiates at the Opening of Mercer's Institute for Successful Ageing

In his address President Michael D Higgins spoke of the opportunities as well as the challenges of ensuring that elderly citizens enjoy active and fulfilled lives.

This 15,018m2 centre of excellence, constructed by BAM within the St James’s Hospital campus, provides patient care as well as educational and training programmes. The 7 storey building accommodates research facilities, consultation spaces, meeting spaces, catering facilities, day areas, roof terrace spaces, a courtyard and naturally lit foyer, conference rooms and 76 en suite bedrooms with further ward spaces to accommodate a total of 100 beds.
