The project comprises of the establishment of a new oral solid dosage production building UPA2 on their Arklow site, which will double the current site capacity and increase its production of existing products for hypertension, angina and type two diabetes and introduce three new pharmaceutical products.

The UPA2 facility includes the Tableting building, Garbing, Dispensary and a new Central Utilities Building. Production unit operations will include dispensing, granulation, blending, tablet compression and coating. The new production facility was completed on the grounds of the existing 'Live Facility', which required BAM to integrate its safety management procedures with the management of the existing facility.

The enabling package of works that BAM carried out was valued at €2.5 million. The fast track execution of this initial part of the works allowed the delivery of the overall project to be completed ahead of time. The enabling works included securing the new building from the existing live facility and creating a new access roadway across marsh lands and across an existing river. BAM provided geotechnical and engineering support for this part of the works, which assisted the client in making cost savings by employing BAM's valuable experience and civil engineering solutions. The enabling works also included all the underground utilities, building excavation and foundations.

The Building & Fit Out package of works followed on, directly after BAM successfully delivered the enabling works package. BAM's management team provided an integral part of the overall client's construction team, providing solutions in the planning and co-ordination of all disciplines involved in the project. BAM completed the structural frame, roof works, external envelope and internal fit out including clean room areas. Detailed co-ordination of all of the Mechanical and Electrical systems allowed a smooth completion of the finishes of all the internal areas. A high level of Quality finishes was completed on the project, as a result of BAM's pro active approach in managing the works throughout the project. The safe management of the works by BAM was also highly acknowledged by the client.

Servier is a research based company that concentrates on the development of cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes and central nervous system drugs. Two of its existing drugs manufactured in Arklow, the diabetes drug Diamacron and the hypertension drug Coversyl, rank in the top five in Europe in their class.
