BAM has handed over the new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, a major new community facility designed to improve health and wellbeing, encourage active lifestyles and provide modern, inclusive spaces for local residents.
Delivered for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, the hub represents a landmark investment in community infrastructure, with flexible, high-quality spaces designed to serve visitors of all ages and abilities while helping to tackle health inequalities and support social interaction
The new hub includes a 25-metre eight-lane community pool, four-court sports hall, a 100-station fitness suite and a range of additional spaces dedicated to sport, fitness and wellbeing.
The project has also delivered significant benefits for the local area during construction. More than £10.15M was spent with supply chain businesses within 30 miles of the site, helping to support the local economy. In total, the project generated £9.76M in social value, including 122 weeks of apprenticeship training supporting seven apprentices, 111 hours of engagement with schools and colleges, and 72 hours of volunteering supporting community initiatives.
At the opening event, the new hub was visited by Stephanie Peacock, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Tourism, Civil Society and Youth. The Minister was joined by representatives from Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council including Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health Brady Hughes and Rachel Taylor.
“Seeing the Hub ready to make a lasting, positive impact shows what can be achieved when partners share a clear vision. Together we have created facilities that strengthen, connect, and benefit communities well beyond the build.”
Adam Harding BAM Regional Director
Cllr Brady Hughes, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Minister to Bedworth and to showcase this outstanding new physical activity hub. The visit represents the significance of what has been achieved here and recognise the hard of work of everybody involved to bring this vision to life.”
During the tour the Minister praised the ambition behind the project and the clear focus on delivering long term benefits for residents across the borough. By seeing the facilities first hand-hand, the Minister was able to appreciate the impact of investment in the community.
Rachel Taylor, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, said: “As a former Wimbledon umpire and line judge, I’m passionate about making sure everyone has access to world-class sport and exercise facilities. That’s why I’m absolutely delighted to see the new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub open, and to welcome the Minister for today’s tour.”
