Delivering measurable decarbonisation and cut operating costs

Reducing carbon emissions in the built environment and delivering FM services are some of the biggest challenges facing building owners and occupiers.

BAM has the expertise to design, install and maintain your renewable energy assets. Our goal is to support clients on their pathway to net zero.

From new energy efficient buildings and tracking operational performance, to retrofitting existing built environments and decarbonising estates, BAM manages the full lifecycle of energy and utility supplies.

We can also procure energy and water directly on behalf of our clients, delivering competitive pricing with high levels of service and access to market-leading products. Our approach ensures long-term value, operational efficiency and sustainability.

What makes BAM different? Our energy and sustainability experts see the bigger picture – because we work so closely with our design, construction, services engineering and facilities management teams – so we truly understand that energy provision can’t be tackled in isolation. Power and utilities make every building work for the people who use them to live or work.

What we do

From new high-performing buildings to improving the energy efficiency of existing estates, our expertise helps you decarbonise and reduce operational ownership cost.

  • Delivering new energy-efficient buildings
Sustainability is front and centre of every construction and infrastructure project. New developments and refurbishments all have decarbonisation and net zero in their sights. That’s a given.

The BAM approach focuses on passive solutions first and foremost. So, for example, our design and construction teams find ways to build that exploit solar gain, reduce the need for artificial lighting, heating, cooling and create natural filtration systems. And our services engineering experts identify and implement state-of-the-art, efficient mechanical and electrical systems to run increasingly ‘intelligent’ buildings.

Intelligent buildings require new strategies and skills operate and maintain them and to ensure that their high performance is maintained.

  • Improving the energy performance of existing estates
Existing buildings account for around 34% of the UK’s annual carbon emissions. 90% of these existing buildings will still be in use by 2050. BAM’s net zero ‘retrofit solution’ supports our clients in cutting their energy costs, while improving the building’s performance.

BAM can retrofit carbon reduction measures to existing buildings, and our solution explores operational efficiency, energy demand reduction, transfer to low or zero carbon energy and renewable energy generation to improve the efficiency of assets.

  • Designing and implementing smart building services
BAM can help by planning and delivering new-generation smart building services, even in an old or unsophisticated facility.

Our specialists start by surveying and assessing current devices and control systems. Then we design and implement new, data-driven analytical and management systems – using existing and new sensors – to optimise the performance of plant and equipment.

“It’s not uncommon for our energy platform to uncover significant energy waste: what we call ‘a night at the museum’. High-resolution data, such as half-hourly readings, often reveals unexpected and previously invisible activity during evenings or weekends when buildings are typically unoccupied.”

“The project at Bower House has changed the way we manage our building. We now have a consumption baseline to track optimisation in £ and kWh. We can clearly see issues impacting energy consumption and carbon emissions, making it easier to develop solutions with data backed proposals. And most importantly, we’ve delivered a significant reduction in operating costs and have predictable utility spend.”
